Katrina Bajoras opened her authorial art archive to selected guests at her creative residency: the magic of surrealism
On a summer day in 2024, the art world was captivated by an exceptional and memorable presentation of Katrina Bajoras’ artworks, held in a unique summer creative residency on the Latvian seaside. Representatives and lovers of art were invited to an intimate and surreal evening, where the artist’s works became not only a visual but also an emotional event.
The event showcased her newest paintings which, as Karolis Gužas, director of the International Art Gallery TSEKH in Vilnius, said: “stand out for their boldness, vibrancy, and richness of symbolic elements through which the world is viewed through an emotional and sensory lens. For the artist, space, time, and the perception of the world are very important in painting, so each work requires an attentive gaze.”
Beyond the paintings, guests could admire ceramics, whose forms and textures sparked admiration and inspired discussions about contemporary art trends. Her designed clothes and a rug-art also became highlights of the evening, revealing the artist’s ability to synthesize the fields of art and functionality.

An intimate and elegant evening
The environment of the event was impressive – Katrina Bajoras’ summer creative residency was created as an ideal place for art and creativity. It even won an award in 2015 in Lithuania for the best residential home-villa in the dunes. Few have the opportunity to enter such a sensitive and intimate place. A small but exclusive circle of guests – art historians, artists, art managers, gallery directors, clients – created a unique intimacy, further enriched by cello music performed by talented fourteen-year-old Emilija Minelgaitė. Her sound added a serene touch to relaxed yet inspiring atmosphere, allowing guests to surrender to art and discussion. A “beneplácito” natural, biodynamic wine tasting complemented the evening, giving guests the opportunity to enjoy subtle flavors, explore them, and engage in discussions about the impact of art and the creative process. The hosts also revealed their passion for culinary arts and treated the guests to dishes they created themselves, inspired by their travels and the flavors collected through life.
A celebration and the energy of creation
“Katrina, through her way of living, bears witness to the truest authenticity of creation: the horizons of unfeigned depth, time capsules-spaces, bodies, and objects measured by a light known only to an artist. By inviting people to this celebration, Katrina invited everyone to ‘cross the horizon,’ to her creative space in Pape. There, beyond everyday life. And just like all expressive and inspiring main characters in films, she created a temporarily existing fiesta of wild nature, luxurious supportive love, pure sound, and art!”, shared art historian Viktorija Mištautaitė.
This only proves that Katrina Bajoras’ presentation was not simply an art showing, but an inspiring experience revealing how art can bring people together, give joy, and spark new insights.
